{"id":484,"date":"2006-02-02T22:33:54","date_gmt":"2006-02-02T22:33:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/publicityhound.com\/blog\/?p=484"},"modified":"2025-06-12T17:49:40","modified_gmt":"2025-06-12T17:49:40","slug":"firm-absent-from-small-pr-firm-of-the-year-list-fights-back-with-letter-to-the-editor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/purelysupp.com\/publicity\/marketing\/firm-absent-from-small-pr-firm-of-the-year-list-fights-back-with-letter-to-the-editor\/","title":{"rendered":"Firm absent from &#8216;Small PR Firm of the Year&#8217; list fights back with letter to the editor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I posted an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicityhound.com\/blog\/what-you-can-do-to-fight-bias-in-the-media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">item<\/a> earlier this week about how to fight bias in the media, and\u00a0one of my tips was to write a letter to the editor of publications you think have treated you unfairly.<\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0morning, I came\u00a0across a perfect example while reading\u00a0the Jan. 30 issue of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prweek.com\/uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PR Week<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ronn Torossian, president and CEO of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.5wpr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">5W Public Relations<\/a>, was miffed that the magazine didn&#8217;t include his firm in its <a href=\"http:\/\/offlinehbpl.hbpl.co.uk\/misc\/SRP\/Supplements-Documents\/2006Shortlist.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shortlist <\/a>of &#8220;Small PR Firm of the Year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So he wrote a letter to the editor ticking off all the reasons his firm should have been chosen:<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;For the second\u00a0year in a row, it was the fastest growing PR firm in the country, and it is willing to open its books and compare its numbers against those of any other PR firm.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;It has one of\u00a0the lowest employee turnover rates in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;It was featured in a two-page story in the Sunday New York Times last year in which Torossian was referred to as &#8220;the consummate hard-driving, scrappy New York publicist.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;It has won 87 percent of its new-business pitches.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;It has a more racially and ethnically diverse staff than other firms.<\/p>\n<p>And finally, &#8220;The exact reason we experience such success is why the judges wouldn&#8217;t vote for us&#8212;we are threatening to them because we are providing more for our clients.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sour grapes? Not as far as The Publicity Hound is concerned. Toroissian got 13 inches of type in PR Week versus the other firms, whose names were mentioned in teeny-tiny print at the bottom of the list.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Letters like these can often get generate more exposure and get your message across far better than being named as one of the finalists on a &#8220;best of&#8221; list.<\/p>\n<p>Way to go, Ronn. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I posted an item earlier this week about how to fight bias in the media, and\u00a0one of my tips was to write a letter to the editor of publications you think have treated you unfairly.
