1. Why an Opt-in Box is a Mistake<\/h3>\n

At your website, offer one opt-in box, preferably on your home page, where journalists and other visitors can download valuable free information in exchange for their name and email address.<\/p>\n

Don Crowther says it’s a mistake to offer only one opt-in box. He has 10 at his website, and all offer different freebies for different target audiences, depending on what kinds of problems they need solved.<\/p>\n
Each box yields about 10 new emails a day. That’s 100 a day, or 36,500 a year! I almost fell off the chair when he told us that during Thursday’s webinar on how to “Turn Social Media into a List-building Machine.”<\/p>\n
This takes a lot of work. But create each box once, and they run on autopilot.<\/p>\n

3. Publicity Summit Opens<\/h3>\n
The National Publicity Summit, held twice a year in New York City, is accepting applications for the event April 2-5 where you can personally meet more than 100 top journalists and producers and pitch your story face to face.<\/p>\n
To ensure that everyone gets enough one-on-one time with the media, Steve Harrison is only admitting 100 attendees.<\/p>\n
Previous summits featured journalists from Newsweek, Health, Redbook, Time, Family Circle, O the Oprah Magazine, Entrepeneur, People, INC., Parent, the New York Times, CNN, 48 Hours, ABC’s The View, Fox News and the Today Show. Many of them will return in the spring.<\/p>\n
