If you’re old enough to remember the JFK assassination, I’ll bet you thought, many times this week, about where you were when the president was shot. I remember feeling downright sinful for going to a rollerskating party the night of Friday, Nov. 22. And I remember the two bulging scrapbooks my mom kept in her cedar chest, filled with yellowed newspaper clippings of that awful weekend.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

–Yet Another Down Year for Magazines–Ad Pages Fall for the Seventh Straight Year, Down 8.2 Percent<\/p>\n
I shared those headlines during Thursday’s free webinar on “7 Things Your 2014 Publicity Strategy Must Include.”<\/p>\n
But smart Publicity Hounds aren’t worried.<\/p>\n
They’re busy creating their own media outlets–TV channels on YouTube, podcasts, electronic newspapers, boards filled with photos and images on Pinterest, infographics, blogs and lots more.<\/p>\n

3. The “New Media Age” Press Kit<\/h3>\n
Phyllis Zimbler Miller doesn’t care much for bookmarks, glossy paper folders and postcards that many authors include in their press kits.<\/p>\n
“Originally I made separate cards for separate books of mine,” she writes. “Then I wrote several more books and I wasn\u2019t going to carry multiple cards around. Plus, I changed the cover of both books that were on the cards I had already made.”<\/p>\n
In a guest blog post she wrote for me, Phyllis admits: “What I should have done, even when I only had one book, was have a card that emphasized my author website and appropriate social media touch points. Then, as I self-published more books–and added these to the website–the card would still be correct.<\/p>\n
