(I assume\u00a0that means they&#8217;re eating out less.)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>My tip:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pitch stories on how to save on grocery bills.\u00a0 Restaurants, what are you doing to respond to this? Any special marketing promotions that have worked well? Are you altering menus, changing your hours or\u00a0adding cooking classes\u00a0to draw the crowds? (See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicityhound.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Publicity Tips for Restaurants, Chefs &amp; Foodies.<\/a>&#8220;)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nancy&#8217;s tip:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Consumers are using more cents-off coupons.<\/p>\n<p><strong>My tip:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Professional organizers, suggest ways for us to organize all those coupons and actually use them.\u00a0 Consumer experts, are using coupons usually better than buying the store&#8217;s generic brand?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nancy&#8217;s\u00a0tip:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>People are still entertaining an average of twice a month but it&#8217;s casual and low-key.<\/p>\n<p><strong>My tip:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pitch your local &#8220;grub club&#8221; or dinner group to the food columnist at your local newspaper.\u00a0It might also make a fun\u00a0feature story for your local\u00a0TV station. If an upcoming dinner is tied to the holidays or a religious celebration, that&#8217;s a nice little extra.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nancy&#8217;s tip:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Consumers are still very interested in health and prevention.<\/p>\n<p><strong>My tip:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is a chance for health departments and others to pitch story ideas like\u00a0how to wash produce and\u00a0\u00a0avoid food poisoning. What about all those food allergies we&#8217;re hearing so much about?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nancy&#8217;s tip:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>PR people, leave the office for good old-fashioned face-to-face, desk-side meetings with journalists. This goes against advice that Steve Mullen of the Social Media PR blog wrote in his post <a href=\"http:\/\/www.endgamepr.com\/blog\/2009\/03\/18\/top-10-dead-or-dying-pr-tactics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">10 Dead or Dying PR Tactics<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>My tip:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When you visit, ask the Number One most important question you can ever ask: &#8220;How can I help you?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nancy&#8217;s tip:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Give exclusives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>My tip:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Be careful because this can backfire, particularly if it&#8217;s a breaking-news story.\u00a0The writer might be excited about the story\u00a0and love the exclusive. If her editor isn&#8217;t nearly as interested\u00a0and\u00a0buries it way inside the magazine, you&#8217;ve blown a publicity opportunity.<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nNancy&#8217;s tip:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Report on trends. Remember that\u00a0magazines are restricting travel for some journalists so they rely on expert sources to keep them informed about trends and what&#8217;s happening at shows like the Fancy Food Show.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>My tip:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Report on trends even when the story doesn&#8217;t directly affect you.
