Be ready to tell the screener exactly what you&#8217;ll say to the host. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Holland Cooke, a talk radio consultant, cautions call screeners to <strong>prep callers <\/strong>before they go to the host on-air. Here&#8217;s what you can learn from his article <a href=\"http:\/\/www.talkers.com\/2015\/03\/09\/have-you-hugged-your-call-screener-today\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Have You Hugged Your call Screener Today?<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sound as though you know the host and you&#8217;re <strong>happy to be on the air.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Get to the pointy quickly.<\/strong> No rambling.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don&#8217;t say, &#8220;Hi, how are you? It&#8217;s so great to be on your show.&#8221; Just launch into your opening statement that summarizes your key point <strong>succinctly.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stay <strong>on topic.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>He also recommends call screeners audition callers off the air and actually help them boil down their opinion to a concise opening statement. <strong>Be ready<\/strong> for this. Practice before you call the station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">And My Own Tips&#8230;.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m a talk radio <strong>junkie.<\/strong> Three things bug me&#8212;and radio hosts&#8212;to no end:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Callers who <strong>won&#8217;t turn off their radios,<\/strong> hoping to hear themselves.
