National Public Radio<\/a>\u00a0is canceling “Day to Day,”<\/a> and “News & Notes”<\/a> March 29 and laying off <\/a>7 percent of its staff, after experiencing sharp declines in funding, especially from corporate sponsors.<\/p>\n

Twenty-two\u00a0journalists\u00a0will lose their jobs, including hosts Madeleine Brand and Farai Chideya. The shows are both based in Culver City, Calif., at NPR West, a major satellite operation.<\/p>\n

Day to Day<\/em> was designed as a midday complement to mainstays Morning Edition<\/em> and All Things Considered<\/em>, while News and Notes<\/em>, a successor to The Tavis Smiley Show<\/em>, was intended to draw more African-American listeners.<\/p>\n
