Pitch while the story is hot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicityhound.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/allthingsconsidered.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2040\" style=\"float: left;margin: 5px 9px\" title=\"allthingsconsidered\" src=\"https:\/\/www.publicityhound.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/allthingsconsidered.jpg\" alt=\"All Things considered logo\" width=\"124\" height=\"109\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re pitching National Public Radio&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/templates\/rundowns\/rundown.php?prgId=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;All Things Considered,&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0Carol Klinger, associate editor, who has worked\u00a0for NPR since 1995 and fielded thousands of pitches, says you must remember that this show deals with breaking news, not mostly feature-oriented stories that are the mainstay of other NPR shows.<\/p>\n<p>Here are her pitching tips.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pitches she hates:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Get rich quick products or services<\/li>\n<li>Anything diet-related<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;The next big thing&#8221; in the health category<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Pitches she loves:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Those that tie into breaking news stories. Smart\u00a0publicists, she says, call their authors as soon as they hear about a breaking news event that ties into the client&#8217;s expertise.\u00a0Then they call her and pitch&#8212;that day!<\/li>\n<li>Stories that have &#8220;terrific sound.&#8221; For example,\u00a0one of her sources who works for a university pitched a story about how, as part of an experiment, the school\u00a0was going to drop cars atop a hurricane shelter to see how much strain the shelter could take.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Pitches from publicists whose clients have just had an amazing experience.
