Good morning!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Quick question .\u00a0 .\u00a0 .\u00a0 .<\/p>\n

If you were to go to ONE press conference a week, which would be your favorite day?\u00a0 Is Monday a good day, at the start of the week?\u00a0 Not Friday, I imagine; right?\u00a0 Wednesdays – to get out of your routine and break what can be a monotonous week?\u00a0 This is not a fickle question, or a trick question; I’d love to know – truly!<\/p>\n

She\u00a0included a link to her website.<\/p>\n

Here’s how I responded:<\/p>\n

I would probably do everything in my power to avoid going to a press conference altogether.\u00a0 Reporters despise press conferences because the vast majority of them are irrelevant.\u00a0 If it is of any significance, all media people leave with the same story.<\/p>\n

So, bottom line, I would do everything in my power if I were you to NOT hold a press conference in the first place.<\/p>\n

When I interviewed Sandra Eggers, APR about Creative Alternatives to Boring Press Conferences<\/a>, she gave example after example\u00a0of fun media events\u00a0that generated fantastic publicity, like:<\/p>\n

—A fun\u00a0\u201cKid\u2019s Town Hall\u201d that publicized what was otherwise a boring college news event. (Lots of cute faces for the TV cameras!)<\/p>\n

—How a florist association announced its formation by giving\u00a0away 50,000 roses and carnations\u00a0\u00a0to new moms in local hospitals.<\/p>\n

—How a group used\u00a0hundreds of conch shells to publicize a lack of funding for special education in Michigan.<\/p>\n
