Journalists are blogging. And they&#8217;re exposing our boo-boos to the whole world in blog posts like <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/weblogs.baltimoresun.com\/news\/education\/blog\/2007\/12\/press_release_faux_pas_of_the.html\" rel=\"noopener\">this one<\/a>\u00a0from a Baltimore Sun reporter.<\/p>\n<p>A press release, written by the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Center for American Progress<\/a>,\u00a0refers to a school &#8220;principle&#8221; instead of a school &#8220;principal.&#8221;\u00a0As if that isn&#8217;t bad enough, this group\u00a0is pushing for\u00a0 teachers&#8217; salaries to be more in line with those of\u00a0principals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>My free email course <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.publicityhound.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;89 Ways to Write Powerful Press Releases<\/a>&#8221; has a lesson on proofreading.\u00a0\u00a0I recommend that you ask somebody else to proofread every release you write and to click on every live link to make sure it takes readers to the correct website.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Full disclosure: I&#8217;ve made more than my own share of typos. Many of them actually showed up in newspapers where I worked as a reporter, either because I didn&#8217;t proofread my own copy well enough, or a copy editor missed it.
