When I\u00a0got my December issue of Wired magazine, it came with a bonus\u00a0\u201cMovies Rock” supplement.\u00a0I spotted the headline\u00a0\u201cMartin Scorsese Unleashes His New Rolling Stones Concert Film” on the front cover and ripped open the plastic as quickly as I could.<\/p>\n

One of my pet peeves\u00a0is the absence of page numbers on the covers of magazines which means readers can’t jump quickly\u00a0from a headline to the story inside.\u00a0I turned\u00a0to the Table of Contents in the front and searched for the Rolling Stones headline to learn what page the story was on.<\/p>\n

A quick\u00a0glance through the contents turned up nothing with the words “Martin Scorsese” or “Rolling Stones” in boldface type. So I searched. And searched. And searched.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After plowing through\u00a018 items in the Table of Contents, I finally found it under the headline “Sight and Sound.”\u00a0But there was no page number listed\u00a0after the blurb about the article.\u00a0 At this point, I’m starting to do a slow burn.\u00a0<\/p>\n

So I start flipping\u00a0through the magazine trying to find the damn article. It suddenly dawns on me. The pages don’t even have\u00a0page numbers!\u00a0Now I’m absolutely… unwired.\u00a0I never did read the article.<\/p>\n

Instead,\u00a0I wrote a letter to the editor complaining about the absence of page numbers and letting them know that\u00a0I tossed the entire supplement\u00a0into the wastebasket.\u00a0What do you suppose the advertisers would say if they knew this? Certainly, I can’t be the only one.\u00a0<\/p>\n

C’mon guys. This is Publishing 101 stuff. If\u00a0people have to work\u00a0hard to read your printed magazine,\u00a0they’ll either\u00a0read you online, or they’ll be like me and\u00a0not read you at all.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
