The option to\u00a0get a customized URL is relatively new.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why Author Central Is Important\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Besides the all-important headshot and bio, you can import several blog feeds, your Twitter stream if you have one, and add a video. The biggest advantage of an Author Central profile probably is that all your books and ebooks on Amazon can be displayed here in one place along with your bio, etc.<\/p>\n<p>People on Amazon can get to your Author Central profile (if you have set one up) in at least three ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If they type your name in Amazon\u2019s browser field, your Author Central profile will be one of the choices returned in search results along with books by the same author name.<br \/>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>If they have typed in one of your book titles and then are on that book page, they can click on your name right under the title at the top of the page.<br \/>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>They can scroll down the Amazon page of one of your books until they come to the &#8220;More About the Author&#8221; section. \u00a0\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/purelysupp.com\/publicity\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2012\/07\/Phyllis-Zimbler-Miller-More-About-the-Author1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11929\" style=\"vertical-align: middle;border: 1px solid black;margin-top: 6px;margin-bottom: 6px\" title=\"Phyllis Zimbler Miller More About the Author\" src=\"https:\/\/purelysupp.com\/publicity\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2012\/07\/Phyllis-Zimbler-Miller-More-About-the-Author1.jpg\" alt=\"Phyllis Zimbler Miller's About the Author Page on Amazon \" width=\"320\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/purelysupp.com\/publicity\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2012\/07\/Phyllis-Zimbler-Miller-More-About-the-Author1.jpg 320w, https:\/\/purelysupp.com\/publicity\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2012\/07\/Phyllis-Zimbler-Miller-More-About-the-Author1-300x158.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>If readers click on the \u201cVisit\u201d link, they will be taken to your Author Central profile. Note that this profile is <strong>much more<\/strong> than just the biography that&#8217;s displayed on the book&#8217;s page.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The \u201csecret password\u201d to this publicity op:\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/authorcentral.amazon.com\/gp\/landing\/187-7682683-3992440?ie=UTF8&amp;*Version*=1&amp;*entries*=0\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/authorcentral.amazon.com<\/a> (in the U.S.) and<a href=\"https:\/\/authorcentral.amazon.co.uk\/gp\/landing\/275-5268010-5845154?ie=UTF8&amp;*Version*=1&amp;*entries*=0\" target=\"_blank\"> http:\/\/authorcentral.amazon.co.uk<\/a> (in the U.K.)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>You can actually fill out information in English on other Amazon country sites if you can read enough of that language to figure out what to do.\u00a0 And not all Amazon country sites may yet have this option, or as robust an option.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the moment, the U.S. Author Central profile bio information seems to be automatically transferring to other Amazon country sites.\u00a0 In addition, you can go into the specific country site and add to that country\u2019s Author Central profile bio. \u00a0Your Amazon password tends to work across all Amazon sites.<\/p>\n<p>I did this for my thriller CIA Fall Guy on the German Amazon site (amazon.de) because the book takes place partly in Germany.\u00a0 I added specific Germany-related info to the bio because I lived in Germany a long time ago.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Many More Options<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once signed into Author Central, you can take advantage of lots of other options. In fact, Amazon now owns\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shelfari.com\" target=\"_blank\">Shelfari,<\/a>\u00a0a community for book lovers,\u00a0and is using this subsidiary site to enable others, besides the author, to add information, just like Wikipedia does. Readers can comment on the characters, plot, etc. of a novel, and their contributions show up on the book\u2019s page on Amazon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tip:<\/strong>\u00a0 Every so often, check out these Shelfari additions by others.\u00a0 I discovered that a well-meaning person had actually confused characters and given away plot points in the character descriptions of one of my novels.\u00a0 I simply made the correct adjustments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Big advantage:<\/strong>\u00a0 As of this writing, you can only email Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) with issues about your Kindle books.
