FEMA, the federal disaster agency,\u00a0created its own\u00a0when it staged a phony press conference<\/a>\u00a0last week in which FEMA employees posed as reporters and threw soft-ball questions at agency leaders so they could tell us what a good job they were doing at the California fires.<\/p>\n During yesterday’s commentary<\/a> on “Face the Nation” on CBS,\u00a0\u00a0Bob Schieffer had a good suggestion for FEMA:\u00a0fire the\u00a0flaks who were responsible for this mess.\u00a0\u00a0And if the agency wants to generate authentic publicity, send\u00a0whichever PR people are left to\u00a0California to help the fire victims.\u00a0<\/p>\n “Somewhere on their employment application form there must be a clause that says “Your IQ must be below<\/em> a certain level to work here.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Thanks to James Romenesko<\/a>\u00a0for the heads-up on this one.<\/p>\n Speaking of press conferences, the majority of them are a huge waste of time unless you’re dumping bad news and giving all media the same story.\u00a0 Far better to stage an interesting media event that they’ll really care about.\u00a0(See \u00a0“Creative Alternatives to Boring News Conferences<\/a>.”)\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Talk about a PR disaster.
